Culture at the Festes de Sant Domingo

The programme for the Festes de Sant Domingo d’Es Llombards 2026 included a cultural walk on 8 August to mark the 90th anniversary of the inauguration of the local school. It was led by Apol·lònia Martínez. The connection to the school gave the event a clear local and historical context. The same festival programme also included a parade with dimonis and caparrots, accompanied by the Xeremiers de Santanyí. A traditional Tremponada was also part of the programme.

Another perspective on Santanyí’s history leads to El Roser, the former parish church. It was built in the first half of the 14th century in a transitional style between Romanesque and Gothic. During pirate raids, it regularly served as a refuge for the local population and was therefore fortified. La Porta Murada adds to this picture of the town’s defences: the gate tower is part of Santanyí’s 16th-century defensive walls. Markets, festivals and art in Santanyí

The Fira de Santanyí takes place on the third Saturday in October and has an agricultural, handicraft and industrial focus. The patron saint’s festival of Sant Andreu falls on 30 November. It includes a solemn mass as well as social and cultural activities throughout the festival week.

Santanyí market is held all year round on Wednesdays and Saturdays in Plaça Major and the surrounding streets. The market offers local produce, clothing and handicrafts; local products include sobrassada, oil and wine.
