In Cala Figuera, near Cap des Moro, stone from Santanyí was loaded onto ships for transport. This gives the area a tangible perspective on the journey of the material. Santanyí stone also features in the architectural history of Santanyí itself: the parish church of Sant Andreu was built from it. In this way, you encounter the material in two different contexts—as cargo shipped from Cala Figuera and as the building material of a significant landmark in the wider destination.

The cave Es Cap des Moro offers a different perspective on the past. It lies nearby on a coastal cliff and contains six small niches that were used as places of worship in prehistoric times. Santanyí: Market, Architecture and Festivities

In the wider destination of Santanyí, Plaça Major is the centre. Festivals and the market take place there; the town hall and the parish church of Sant Andreu are the square's two main buildings. The church was built from Santanyí stone. Construction began on 25 July 1786 and lasted 25 years. It also houses a monumental Baroque organ from the Dominican monastery in Palma. The building's history, local stone and an instrument originating in Palma come together here as different aspects of a visit to the church.

Other landmarks in Santanyí's architectural history tell the story of different eras. El Roser is the town's former parish church and was built in the first half of the 14th century in a transitional style between Romanesque and Gothic. During pirate raids, it regularly served as a refuge for the population and was therefore fortified. La Porta Murada is a gate tower in Santanyí's 16th-century defensive walls. The narrow streets also have several art galleries and art studios—another way to experience the character of the town, distinct from its churches and fortifications.

The market and festival calendar can also help you choose when to travel. The Santanyí market takes place year-round on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It offers local produce, clothing and handicrafts; the food products mentioned include sobrassada, oil and wine. The Sant Antoni festival is held on 17 January, with traditional bonfires and barbecues on the eve, followed by the blessing of the animals. The Fira de Santanyí takes place on the third Saturday in October and has an agricultural, craft and industrial character. The Sant Andreu patron saint festival is celebrated on 30 November with a solemn mass and numerous social and cultural activities throughout the festival week.
