Sant Jordi in Ibiza shows its special side every year in October: this is when the Fira de la Sal takes place in the Ses Salines Natural Park in Ibiza and in the village of Sant Jordi. The Fira de la Sal is an annual celebration of the ancient traditions of salt production. Visitors can watch culinary demonstrations and take part in workshops on the use of salt in Ibizan cuisine.

Getting around

Ses Salines beach can be reached via the paved road towards the airport. The road leads to the outskirts of Sant Jordi de ses Salines; there, follow the turn-off to the left towards sa Canal. The beach can be reached by car, by bicycle via a cycle lane or by a regular public transport route that stops a few metres from the beach.

Es Cavallet beach can be reached from the outskirts of Sant Jordi by turning towards sa Canal, following the road for 4 km and then taking the turn-off to the beach. Es Cavallet can also be reached by car, by bicycle via a cycle lane or by the regular bus route towards Ses Salines beach. Sant Jordi is the village closest to the airport.

The Ses Salines Natural Park is located in the immediate vicinity of Sant Jordi. A small market takes place near Sant Jordi every Saturday. Second-hand items, handicrafts and clothing are sold at Sant Jordi’s Saturday market.

History

The Iglesia Sant Jordi de Ses Salines is one of Ibiza’s four earliest fortified churches and the best-preserved of them. Its first documented mention dates from 1469; at that time, it was probably still under construction. On the outside, the church has sloping walls and battlements around the upper roof. These give it a distinctly fortified character.
