The Route de sa Sal Rossa leads from Sant Francesc de s’Estany to the area of Platja d’en Bossa. Its course thus connects two clearly named local references and passes through an area where the history of the salt pans remains visible.

In the wider regional surroundings of Platja d’en Bossa, the Route de sa Sal Rossa lies within the Parc Natural de ses Salines d’Eivissa i Formentera. The park is a protected landscape containing terrestrial and marine habitats. Nature therefore appears here in both its land-based and marine forms.

In the area around Platja d’en Bossa, the Route de sa Sal Rossa includes the exposed remains of a former salt-pan site next to a paved access section. The path therefore leads not only through the landscape but also past visible structural traces of salt production.

Culture and history

The Torre de sa Sal Rossa is located at the southern end of Platja d’en Bossa and was built in the 16th century. In 1762, a new defence system with a powder magazine was added to the tower. The structure therefore presents the original construction and a later-added military installation as two dated historical points side by side.

In the area around Platja d’en Bossa, the Centre d’Interpretació de ses Salines, located in the rectory next to the building, displays photographs, projections and equipment related to the history of salt production. Salt production is conveyed there through images, projections and concrete equipment, while the Torre de sa Sal Rossa makes the history of coastal defence visible.

Getting there and orientation

Platja d’en Bossa can be reached by car, bicycle, on foot or by a regular bus route. Motorised, public and non-motorised options are therefore available for different ways of getting there.

A tourist information office on the beach provides information about how to get to Ibiza Town and what evening plans are available. In addition to the connection to the city, information about possible evening plans is therefore also available on the beach.
