Culture
The Molín de La Ponte has been restored; its weir dates from the 12th century. The Capilla de La Ponte is a Baroque chapel built at the end of the 17th century. The Palacio de Villanueva in San Cucao is also one of these three cultural heritage sites.
A preserved testimony to the area’s more recent history is the standing chimney of the former La Sierra brickworks. It is the only remaining built testimony to the local tradition of brick and ceramics factories, which existed from the 18th century until the middle of the 20th century. The Fiesta de los Exconxuraos in Llanera commemorates a historical event in the municipality of Llanera.
The Ruta de la Cerámica, also known as the Ruta del Barro de Villayo, begins at the Iglesia de Santa Cruz and follows rural roads through Villayo. Villayo is known for its pottery tradition and local ceramics production. High-quality black ceramics are produced there, including household vessels such as pots, casseroles and jugs. The Escuela Municipal de Cerámica in Posada de Llanera is involved in recovering and preserving this local black ceramics tradition.
