Posada: Way of St. James, Markets and Palaces

The Ruta de los Palacios begins in Posada de Llanera and leads to the 17th-century Palacio de Villabona, the 17th-century Palacio de Villanueva and the Torre de los Valdés in San Cucao, a converted 14th-century palace where horse-riding lessons take place. This route is 40 km long, easy to walk and has no major climbs.

The walking routes therefore differ in length, course and means of travel: In addition to the historic palace route, there is the Way of St. James along the former Camino Real and a circular route that can be completed using either of two means of travel. The cultural attractions have a different focus from the walking sections.

Culture

Plaza de La Habana was created to accommodate the traditional Saturday market, which had previously been held outdoors all year round. The plaza was built between 1924 and 1926; it was financed by emigrants from Llanera in Cuba.

It was restored in 1996 to house the facilities of the Escuela Municipal de Música. It includes an event hall for musical and theatrical performances.

The Feria de San Isidro takes place in Posada de Llanera every year in May as a combination of a livestock market and a traditional market featuring handicrafts and demonstrations of traditional crafts. The programme of the Feria de San Isidro 2024 included a parade of carts and animals through the town, demonstrations of historic agricultural work and an ox-pulling contest.

The programme of the Feria de San Isidro 2026 included a demonstration of pouring Asturian cider and Asturian cider culture, as well as a public tasting of fabada.

The years given for the Feria distinguish between the recurring date in May and the specifically named programmes for 2024 and 2026. This makes it possible to distinguish the general event period from individual programme items.

Trails

The Camino de Santiago reaches Posada. Pilgrims can have their pilgrim credentials stamped at the tourist information office or at participating local establishments.

The Camino passing through Posada follows the former Camino Real, which connected Oviedo with Avilés and its port. The Camino de Santiago through Llanera is approximately 10.2 km long and can be completed on foot in about 1.5 hours.

A circular route of approximately 10 km in Posada de Llanera can be completed by mountain bike or on foot. It leads to Picu Santufirme and its recreation area, which offers views over the municipality of Llanera and the surrounding area.

Posada's cultural attractions also include the Escuela Municipal de Cerámica. Its ceramics courses focus primarily on techniques, materials, glazes, slips, ceramic bodies and kilns.
