Palacio De Naviego: Nature, Mills and San Vicente

Townscape

The traditional farmhouses in Regla de Naviego include walled courtyards with entrance gates, some of them with round arches. The architectural ensemble also includes a building with a circular floor plan, domestic outbuildings and a dovecote on the upper floor. Four grain mills have been preserved along the banks of the Reguero Vallelmonte. Casa Carroubo is one of the buildings preserved in Regla de Naviego in the traditional style.

Culture and History

The mill in Villajur is now used as a centre for raising and breeding trout by the “Fuentes del Narcea” Anglers’ Association. The Church of San Vicente Ferrer has medieval origins. One of its two entrance doors preserves an alfiz, and the church contains a tomb slab from the 11th century. The Church of San Vicente in Regla de Naviego is considered the most remarkable building among the churches in this area of the municipality of Cangas del Narcea. One mill now serves as a small museum with exhibits relating to fishing and the way of life of the inhabitants of this area.
