Culture and History

The Puente Romano is a bridge of medieval origin that rests on the remains of a Roman bridge and is considered a symbol of Cangas de Onís. A depiction of the Cruz de la Victoria hangs from the central arch.

The Aula del Reino de Asturias is located in the former parish church of Cangas de Onís, a monumental building from the 16th century. It uses audiovisual materials, panels, models and games for children.

The Capilla de Santa Cruz was commissioned by King Favila to commemorate the victory in the Battle of Covadonga. It stands on a tumulus in the Contranquíl district; inside it is the Dolmen de Santa Cruz, a burial monument dating from 4000 BC.

Gamonéu is made from the milk of cows, sheep and goats from the municipalities of Onís and Cangas de Onís using traditional methods. Gamonéu del Valle is produced year-round in the lower-lying areas of Onís and Cangas de Onís.
