Culture

The Iglesia de San Millán de la Cogolla was begun in 1770 in the Baroque style and has three naves as well as a crossing bay vaulted by a dome. It houses an organ, a Baroque pulpit from the late 18th century, and altars dedicated to San Millán de la Cogolla and San José.

The Santuario de la Virgen del Tremedal stands on the Cerro del Tremedal; according to traditional accounts, the Virgin is said to have appeared there. The Santuario de la Virgen del Tremedal is associated with a traditional Romería, which has survived to the present day and takes place during the patron saint’s festivities.

Los Mayos is considered to be around 400 years old in Orihuela del Tremedal. Los Mayos is celebrated in Orihuela del Tremedal from 30 April and throughout the entire month of May; as part of the celebration, lots are drawn among unmarried young men and women, and the Mayos are sung in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
