Holiday apartment in Moscardón: Culture, Nature and a Hiking Trail
Moscardón combines distinctive buildings with landscape features in the surrounding area and a hiking trail. In the town centre stands the Iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol, an architecturally and culturally significant 18th-century building. Moscardón’s civil architecture also includes the Aljibe-Molino, which is considered a particularly interesting ensemble. Different examples of architectural heritage therefore come together in the town.
Culture
The Ermita de San Roque is a simple rectangular masonry building. Its chancel has a flat end, while the gabled roof is covered with tiles. On 16 August, the feast day of Saint Roch, a procession or pilgrimage to the Ermita de San Roque takes place in Moscardón after Mass in the parish church. The ermita is currently used as a cultural venue. The building’s form, feast day and present-day use are thus closely connected to the local setting.
The Moscardón Tourist Office is located in the Antiguas Escuelas, Calle San Antonio 12. Alongside the historic buildings, this visitor address is one of the town’s specific points of contact.
Other destinations to include in your plans are Mas de las Matas, Gargallo, Valdelinares, Cretas, Ráfales, Alcaine, Mirambel and Aldehuela.
Hiking
The Moscardón–Masegar hiking route runs from Moscardón to Masegar and is 5.7 kilometres long. Its path is mostly level and easy to follow. Its length, direction and trail conditions give the route a clearly defined profile. Its course towards Masegar also distinguishes it from the buildings in the town centre and the landscape features located around Moscardón.
Landscape and Nature
The Monumental Pino Gordo is a named viewpoint near Moscardón, above the Barranco de El Castellar. The pine forests of La Cañada are also among the places of landscape interest around Moscardón. The Arroyo Masegar is another landscape feature in this area. The places mentioned each represent a different form of landscape: a viewpoint, a forested area and a watercourse.
The name Masegar also appears in the route of the Moscardón–Masegar hiking trail and in the location details of Caballos Albarracín. Caballos Albarracín is a company based in Moscardón in the Masegar valley. The hiking trail, valley and company address thus each relate to a distinct location.
Nature Observation
Another focus is the Sierra de Albarracín Orchid Days. The programme includes a theoretical introduction to the families, genera and species of the Sierra de Albarracín. It also features practical excursions for identifying and photographically documenting representative species from different habitats. From 5 to 7 June 2026, the 10th Sierra de Albarracín Orchid Days were scheduled to take place in Moscardón. The event combines a technical introduction, identification and photographic documentation with excursions into different habitats. It therefore covers both the systematic study of orchids and their observation in a range of habitats.
