Manzanera combines a flat riverside trail along the Río Torrijas with springs, thermal water, remarkable buildings and a distinctive cave. In Manzanera, a flat and easy riverside trail follows the Río Torrijas; it enables users of the Balneario to reach Manzanera. Attractions include the Manzanera stream and the Especias, Cañuelo and Gavilán springs. The Sima El Paúl is about 20 m deep, has a circumference of approximately 70 m, and several yew trees grow at its bottom. Even among the natural attractions, stream, springs, riverside route and cave space clearly differ from one another.
Culture
Villa Amor is a modernist civic building dating from 1913. The present-day Iglesia del Salvador is a Baroque religious building dating from the period between the 16th and 18th centuries. The Torre-campanario is designed in the style of the Levantine Renaissance and houses seven bells. Portal de Abajo was declared a National Historic Monument in 1979.
The later use of Villa Amor is also part of the town’s history: its cellars later housed a facility for drying air-cured ham. As a result, different historical testimonies stand side by side in Manzanera—a civic building from the early 20th century, a religious building with a long period of construction, a bell tower with seven bells, and a structure with documented monument status.
Nature and Water
The Balneario del Paraíso lies at the foot of the Montes de la Salada and has thermal springs originating from the springs of the Molino and Salvador. The Paraíso and Torrijas rivers meet at the Montes de la Salada. Thus, both thermal water and the meeting of two rivers form part of the natural landscape around Manzanera.
The El Cañuelo campsite lies on the Torrijas River in a dense pine forest and is set up for youth camps during the summer season. It can accommodate up to 100 people and has a covered dining hall, bathrooms, showers, a kitchen area and barbecue facilities. Its seasonal focus, pine forest and riverside location give this place its own character within the landscape.
Activities
For cyclists, the mountain biking stage “Star Mountains 1: Sarrión - Manzanera” is designated. Its name links Sarrión and Manzanera in a specific route designation. The Gúdar-Javalambre comarca also holds the distinctions “Reserva Starlight” and “Destino Turístico Starlight”.
In Manzanera, you can therefore choose between a named mountain biking stage, natural attractions by the water, thermal springs, a cave and buildings with different cultural and historical backgrounds. The flat riverside route and the 20 m-deep Sima El Paúl are just as clearly distinct as the seasonal setting of El Cañuelo and the traces of local history that can be read year-round.
When looking for a holiday apartment in Manzanera, you can compare travel dates, room categories and cancellation conditions. Your own requirements may be decisive; culture, water, nature and cycling each set different priorities for planning your trip.
