Discover Celadas: Culture, Nature and Holiday Apartments

In Celadas, architectural heritage, religious traditions, natural sites and cycling routes come together. Its diverse facets are reflected in prominent buildings, traditional festivals, distinctive landscape features and two described cycling routes.

Culture

The Castillo-Palacio-Casa Consistorial houses Celadas Town Hall and has been classified as a “Bien de Interés Cultural, Castillo Monumento” since 2006. The Fuente Vieja–Pierres Vedel is a stone monument built by the French architect Pierres Vedel. The Fuente Vieja also includes a water-conduit tunnel measuring more than 600 m in length, designed by Pierres Vedel. Today, only the solid tower of the Iglesia de Santo Domingo de Silos remains; the church was built in the Late Gothic and Renaissance styles in the second half of the 16th century, and its tower is made of carefully hewn stone blocks. Casa Daudén is a manor house with a semicircular-arched entrance made of stone blocks and the family coat of arms on its façade.

Celadas currently has five hermitages; the oldest written reference to this religious heritage dates from 1576. At the end of May, the procession of the Virgen de la Salud takes place in Celadas, proceeding from the church square to the Ermita de Santa Quiteria, where the image of the Virgen de la Salud is venerated. The Romería de Santa Bárbara is scheduled for the first Sunday in May, and the romería to the Ermita de Santo Domingo for the second Sunday in May. During the August festivities, a visit to the Ermita de San Cristóbal takes place on Sunday; cars are blessed, and sardines and wine are distributed.

The Parque Ruso, also known as Parque de la Amistad, represents the town twinning between Celadas and Vinogradovo and recreates a medieval Russian fairy-tale town in carved wood. The Trincheras de Santa Bárbara include a national command post and sections of the dense network of trenches that structured the position. Access to the Trincheras de Santa Bárbara and the underground shelter is from Celadas Town Hall via the path to the Ermita de Santa Bárbara.

Nature

The Mirador de Santa Bárbara is located on the Cerro de Santa Bárbara in Celadas. The Fuente de Caña María provides water all year round. Caña María is a natural area in Celadas with a large central tree. The Merendero Monte is one of four recreational areas in Celadas. These places give the town’s natural surroundings different forms, from an elevated viewpoint to a place where water flows all year round.

Cycling routes

The “Celadas–Alfambra” cycling route is 14.70 km long, has a positive elevation gain of 180 m and combines religious heritage with rural landscapes; at the same time, it offers cyclists a moderately difficult experience. The “Celadas–Camañas–Visiedo” cycling route starts next to Celadas School and the Parque Ruso. It is a 28.30 km cycling experience.
