Culture

The Mudéjar tower of Báguena's church is an example of the late Mudéjar style in the Jiloca Valley of Teruel. It consists of five sections: the lower one is rectangular and made of dressed stone, while the upper ones are octagonal, built of brick and enclosed by an elliptical shell.

The tower's blind panels are decorated with Mudéjar motifs such as diamonds, interlacing patterns, small arcades and crosses.

The Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary has three naves with barrel vaults and lunettes. Above the transept is a dome, which is visible from the outside through a brick octagon.

The San Valentín Monastery is located in the centre of Báguena, on the northern edge of the town, and combines Gothic and Baroque stylistic elements.

Casa Calvo, also known as Casa Grande, is a three-storey building from the 17th century, built entirely of brick and located in the centre of Báguena. Casa Lucías de Báguena was built in the 17th century; it has two floors and an attic with a plastered brick gallery featuring thirty straight openings.

The Puente de Báguena was built in 1734 by Luis and Francisco Subirón, father and son. It has three semicircular arch openings with brick on the undersides of the arches; the rest of the structure is made of hewn stone blocks.

Nature

The Barranco de Arguilay is a natural area within the municipality of Báguena. It forms a deeply incised V-shaped valley that ends at a rock face where water emerges as springs.

From Báguena, a detour of just over 3 kilometres leads along a well-maintained path to the Barranco de Arguilay.
