Villanueva de Gállego – Culture, Nature and History

Villanueva de Gállego is located on the right bank of the Gállego River, about 17 kilometres from Zaragoza. At the Torre de la Iglesia del Salvador, two sections separated by a cornice formed by projecting brick corbels can be seen. The lower section is decorated with a stepped brick frieze and a diamond-shaped lattice pattern, while the upper section features two arches partially bricked up with exposed bricks. The Torre de la Iglesia del Salvador and the Mudéjar Church of El Salvador in Villanueva de Gállego were built between the 15th and 16th centuries.

Culture

In August 1808, General Palafox and Colonel Perena organised the attack here that was intended to break through the First Siege of Zaragoza. A free guided tour included visits to the Mudéjar tower, the Espacio Pradilla and the Azud de Urdán. The Biblioteca Municipal de Villanueva de Gállego offers books, audiovisual media, networked borrowing services, reading areas and cultural activities for all age groups. The Escuela Ulm de Vuelo of the Club de Villanueva de Gállego offers theoretical and practical flight instruction for club members as well as for pilots who need or are required to undergo training for various reasons.
