Gallur lies on the right bank of the Ebro within the Ribera Alta del Ebro. The Canal Imperial de Aragón crosses the town and divides it into two urban areas connected by a bridge.

Nature and Trails

Gallur’s biodiversity ranges from semi-arid landscapes and xerophytic steppe in the drylands to riparian forests and woodland along the Ebro.

On stage 23 of the GR99 Camino del Ebro, the trail begins beside Gallur’s railway bridge and heads east through an area shaped by agriculture before following a meander of the Ebro.

Stage 22 ends at the railway bridge in Gallur; it is 23.8 kilometres long and takes 4 hours 50 minutes.

The Camino de Santiago Castellano-Aragonés connects Gallur with Santo Domingo de Silos via eight pilgrim stages and covers a total of 237 kilometres.

The different distances and travel times can be considered side by side as different scales for personal planning.

Townscape and Crossings

The Pasarela del Canal is a raised iron crossing over the Canal Imperial de Aragón. An elevator connects it with Gallur’s centre, the railway station, the sports facilities and the albergue.

The C-127 crosses the Puente de San Antonio; it provides space for pedestrians on both sides.

Gallur’s former railway station now serves as an albergue for pilgrims.

Gallur’s parks include Calvario, Plaza Aragón, de la Iglesia and Pignatelli; among other facilities, they have drinking-water fountains and play equipment.

Churches, Buildings and Viewpoints

The Iglesia de San Pedro is a neoclassical church from the 18th century. Its rebuilding began in 1750 and was completed in 1783, and its structure has remained virtually unchanged to this day.

It has a restored organ in the elevated western choir.

From the rear of the parish church of San Pedro de Antioquia, there is a panoramic view of the Ebro near the mouth of the Arba.

The Bodega del Canal is a restored vaulted space with brick arches and now serves as an exhibition hall for art exhibitions.

The Casa General Ortega is a restored 17th-century Renaissance building made of brick.

The Capilla del Beato Agno preserves a wood-carved figure of Our Lady of the Rosary made in the 17th century.

La Cruz, a stone cross, stands at the highest point of Gallur. It was traditionally used on 3 May to bless the fields and farmland of Gallur and is protected in Gallur as a BIC monument.

Festivals and Traditions

Since 2011, the Dance de Gallur has held the status of Fiesta de Interés Turístico de Aragón.

The Encuentro de Dance villa de Gallur has taken place annually since 1996 on the first weekend of March; various Dance groups from Aragón and Navarra perform there.

For the festivals in Gallur, the Dance de Gallur is listed as a performance featuring dancers accompanied by caja and dulzainas.
