Villanúa – Pico Collarada, Caves and Cultural Heritage

Villanúa lies at the foot of Pico Collarada, which rises to 2,886 m. Villanúa serves as a starting point for summer ascents of Pico Collarada. A large part of the Collarada massif belongs to the Collarada y Canal de IP Site of Community Importance. History and Caves

The archaeological site in the Cueva de las Güixas preserves a sequence spanning from prehistory to the late Roman period. The Dolmen de las Güixas is a Neolithic-Chalcolithic megalithic monument with a fully preserved burial chamber, lateral monoliths and capstone.

The guided tour of the Cueva de las Güixas follows a circular route of approximately 400 m. Visits take place with a guide and by prior reservation; independent access to the cave is prohibited. The cave is a protected area and a Site of Community Importance. The approximate length of the circular route and the mandatory guided-tour rule provide the visit with a clear schedule and organisational framework.

Local History and Crafts

The Puente Medieval de Villanúa forms the northern entrance to Villanúa’s old town. The Iglesia de San Esteban de Villanúa has Romanesque origins dating from the 12th century and was extensively remodelled in the 18th century. The Iglesia de San Esteban houses the Romanesque carving Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, dated to between the late 11th and early 12th centuries.

The Museo del Telar offers a tour through traditional weaving, with information about natural fibres, natural dyes and loom tools. In addition to buildings and archaeological traces, the focus is therefore also on the materials, colours and working tools of the weaving tradition.

Pilgrimage Routes and Local Trails

The Camino Francés por Aragón crosses the municipality of Villanúa. On the Camino de Santiago near Villanúa, there is one variant through the old town and another that continues directly along the road. The Fuente del Paco can be reached via a signposted forest path and has a shelter, a picnic area and a spring that may dry up in warm years.
