The Castillo de Loarre contains the Romanesque Church of San Pedro, dating from the 11th century.

Culture and history

The Iglesia de San Esteban was built in the 18th century over a late Gothic building dating from the 16th century. Loarre is also home to the Fuente de tres caños, a fountain built from dressed stone in the 16th century. The Hospedería de Loarre is located on the central square in the former 16th-century town hall. The Hospedería has a restaurant serving Aragonese cuisine, combining tradition and innovation.

In Linás de Marcuello, the former school is a museum space belonging to the Museo Pedagógico de Aragón. The museum space presents the rural school, the working conditions of the teachers and the children's learning materials. On July 25, Loarre holds festivals in honor of Saint James; on October 8, festivals honoring Saint Demetrius follow. In Loarre, architectural history, the museum, cuisine and the two festival dates stand side by side as distinct cultural highlights.

Nature and seasons

The Castillo de Loarre lies at an altitude of 1,071 meters and offers views over the Hoya de Huesca. Depending on the slope, the Sierra de Loarre is home to, among others, black pines, Scots pines, beech trees, firs and holly trees. Bearded vultures, griffon vultures and golden eagles can be observed in the municipality of Loarre. Almond blossom in Loarre is a special attraction in early spring. The altitude, the different forest communities, the birdlife and the blossom each offer their own highlights when planning a trip.

Other places besides Loarre include Buera, Huesca, El Run, Gabarret, Alquézar, Sesué, Serradúy and Gerbe.
