Culture and History

Laspaúles is one of the places in Ribagorza where the Fallas tradition is maintained. The Fallas of Laspaúles belong to the Pyrenean tradition of fire celebrations held for the summer solstice. This tradition was added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2015.

The parish church of Laspaúles dates from the 16th century and has Romanesque origins. The parish church of Laspaúles houses a museum with religious works of art and goldsmith’s work. The Centro de Interpretación de las Bruyxas de Laspaúles presents the history of witchcraft in the Pyrenees and the case of the 24 executed women, as well as historical torture instruments. The Parque Temático de las Brujas de Laspaúles is a circular trail through a forest explaining the witchcraft-related events associated with Laspaúles.

Further independent insights are offered by the Jardín de Esculturas de Domingo Subías and the restored Molino Harinero de Laspaúles. The sculpture garden displays wrought-iron sculptures created by the local parish priest Domingo Subías beside the Isábena River. The mill serves as a historical information centre about grain milling and traditional rural life. The traditional Piedra de los Tres Obis can also be viewed at the Col de Espina.

Trails and Viewpoints

A Romanesque bridge connects Laspaúles and Suils across the Isábena River. The GR 18.1, a variant of the Sendero de la Ribagorza, passes through Villaplana. In addition, part of a signposted GR long-distance hiking trail crosses the municipality of Laspaúles. The bridge, the section of the Sendero de la Ribagorza and the long-distance trail differ in their function and route.

The Mirador de Coll d’Espina is a viewpoint from which the sunset can be observed.

Nature and Night Sky

Laspaúles has mountain biking routes with different types of terrain, ranging from easy paths to technically more demanding routes for experienced cyclists.
