Discover Fanlo: Añisclo Canyon, Culture and Trails

A significant part of the municipality of Fanlo lies within Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park, mainly in Añisclo Canyon. The combination of landscapes, religious sites, manor houses and trails offers different focal points for planning a trip.

Culture

The village of Fanlo has stone houses, roofs made of local slate and typical Pyrenean chimneys. The Church of the Three Kings in Fanlo is Gothic and was formerly a collegiate church. Gothic religious architecture and village building styles can be considered separate focal points when visiting the area.

Casa Ruba is a manor-house complex dating from the 16th century, with a round defensive tower. Casa del Señor is a manor-house complex; the tower can probably be dated to the 16th century, and the year 1586 is inscribed on the portal.

Pilgrimages and Trails

Four pilgrimages to the San Úrbez Chapel take place every year: on 1 May, on the Tuesday of the week after Pentecost, on 14 September and on 15 December, the saint’s day. The four dates are thus spread across different parts of the year and form their own seasonal reference point.

The San Úrbez rock chapel, built in a limestone cavity, can be reached via a staircase after crossing the San Úrbez Bridge on foot. The area around San Úrbez is the starting point for several hiking trails, including routes to the bridges over the Bellos and Aso rivers, as well as to Sercué, La Ripareta and La Fuen Blanca.

Different types of trails and landscapes can be arranged according to their focus when planning your own activities. Beside the road between Fanlo and Sarvisé, a trail begins through the forest of Pardina del Señor, also known as Pardina Ballarín. Several options are available for structuring the day: a four-hour bus route with viewpoints, trails to river bridges and other places, and a forest trail. These differences concern duration, means of transport and connection with the landscape, and can be considered independently of one another.

Excursions

The “Miradores de Ordesa en autobús” service runs from the village of Nerín along a track closed to general traffic, reaching an altitude of 2,150 metres. The “Espacio Nórdico Fanlo Valle de Vió” is listed in an agreement between the Federación Aragonesa de Montañismo and the Nordic Centres of Aragon; FAM members are entitled to a 10% discount there on ski passes and equipment rental, including snowshoes.
