Landscape

The Molino de Buetas is located in the Barranco de Buetas in the catchment area of the Usía River. In addition to the mill, the Molino de Buetas complex includes an irrigation channel and a reservoir. The site therefore encompasses not only the mill building itself, but also the water-management elements connected to it. La Fueva offers viewpoints at Muro de Roda and the Castillo de Samitier, from which exceptional panoramas can be enjoyed. The mill complex and the viewpoints thus emphasize different aspects: here, the specific facility in the ravine is the focus, while there, the far-reaching view across the landscape takes center stage.

Paths

Access to the Molino de Buetas is via a track that starts in Buetas, crosses fields and heads towards Solipueyo. The “Circular por La Fueba” circular hiking route begins and ends in Tierrantona and passes through Humo de Rañín, Rañín, Solipueyo and Buetas. The two types of route therefore differ in their starting point and course: the track describes access to the mill from Buetas, while the hike connects the named places in a loop. The sequence of places on the circular route and the specific access to the facility constitute two distinct pieces of route information.

Culture

The shared feast days of the inhabited places of La Fueva include Saint Sebastian’s Day on 20 January. Buetas’s main festival honors Saint Joseph and is celebrated on 19 March. The dates mentioned are therefore spread across the beginning of the year, March and May and belong to different levels of the festival calendar: the shared feast days of the inhabited places and Buetas’s own main festival.

The annual hiking carnival of La Fueva passes through inhabited places in the valley; four alternating circular routes are held each year. Unlike the fixed-date days, it is characterized by the annual rotation of the circular routes. The inhabited places of the valley provide the event’s geographical setting.

The oratory dedicated to Saint Joseph performs the religious functions in Buetas of the church that is absent there. It has a nave and rectangular apses and is covered by a barrel vault. An atrium is situated in front of the oratory and opens with a round arch. Its dedication, spatial layout, vaulting and projecting entrance describe the building from several architectural perspectives.

The shared feast days of the inhabited places of La Fueva include a pilgrimage on the last Saturday in May to the shrine of the Virgen de Bruis, who is especially venerated by the valley’s inhabitants.
