Trails and Landscape

The Ruta de la Piedra comprises six routes: four run through the streets and surroundings of villages, while two lead through the mountains. The two mountain routes can be completed on foot, by mountain bike or in a 4×4 vehicle.

Along the Gállego near Biscarrués, a network of trails through dense forests invites visitors to hike and mountain bike. The route to the Roman tombs follows an old path between stone walls, olive trees and almond trees, offering views over the Galliguera valley. Culture

In the lower part of Biscarrués, the built-up area opens onto a square, a spring and two boundary crosses. Solid ashlar façades partly display traditional carved and decorative elements.

The parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Biscarrués developed from earlier church buildings. When the church was built in the 18th century, its crenellated Romanesque tower was preserved.

The Fuente y lavadero complex in Biscarrués consists of a spring, a livestock trough and a washhouse, located just a few metres from one another. This type of spring structure was widespread in Aragón in the 16th century; it is therefore probably dated to this period, although a somewhat later date of construction is also possible.

In 2020, Muretes de Arte carried out an intervention on the Camino de la Fuente in Biscarrués in collaboration with the Asociación Tercera Edad “San Sebastián”.

Annual Calendar

On 20 January, Biscarrués celebrates the festival in honour of San Sebastián. It includes a traditional bonfire on the eve, Mass, a communal dinner and dancing.

On 15 August, the week-long main festival in honour of the Virgen de la Asunción begins with a Jota procession through the streets, a festive Mass, communal Caldereta meals and dancing events.

On 22 May, Biscarrués holds a processional pilgrimage to the Ermita de Santa Quiteria. Afterwards, blessed bread and wine are distributed and a brotherhood meal is held.

Wider Surroundings

The wider region around Biscarrués includes Mirador de los Buitres, a viewpoint; Loarre Castle, a castle; and Peña Rueba, Punta Común, Don Güeso and Pusilibro, each a summit. Also located in this wider regional area are Nuestra Señora de Monlora, a monastery, and the Art and Nature Center - Beulas Foundation, a museum.

Time and Memory

The Museo del Tiempo is housed in a former Torreón de la Luz in Biscarrués. It explains how people have tried to measure the passage of time and pays tribute to the life’s work of a clockmaker who rescued hundreds of monumental clocks. The museum houses monumental clocks, bells and historic pieces, including a clock made in 1862 that showed the hours for more than 160 years from the parish church tower of Biscarrués.
