Culture and History

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Consolación is a three-nave temple in the Gothic-Mudéjar style. It was built over the remains of a Roman tower and a Moorish fortress.

Inside, the church contains an altarpiece by Martínez Montañés featuring a depiction of the Immaculate Conception dating from 1608, as well as a crucifix by Pedro Millán from 1500.

The Centro de la Cultura “Escuelas Nuevas” houses a museum area on the history of writing on its upper floor. Using reproductions, it presents the development of writing from clay tablets, scrolls, codices and papyri to printing and book publishing.

The Centro de la Cultura “Escuelas Nuevas” also includes the “Aula Ingeniero Elorza”, dedicated to Francisco Antonio de Elorza y Aguirre. It addresses the importance of mining to the development of the municipality of El Pedroso.

The Centro de la Cultura “Escuelas Nuevas” is one of the outstanding examples of civil architecture in the comarca. It was designed and built in the first half of the 20th century by Aurelio Gómez Millán.

Trails and Excursions

A 2 km-long linear trail of moderate to low difficulty starts at the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Consolación and leads to viewpoints overlooking El Pedroso and the reservoir of the Río Huéznar. Its length, difficulty level and destinations are clearly specified, as is the starting point.

A public, 19.5 km-long linear hiking trail connects the railway stations of El Pedroso and Cazalla-Constantina along the banks of the Rivera del Hueznar.

A 20.4 km-long circular route leads to the Mirador de El Azulaque; the trail begins together with the Sendero de las Cañas.

In El Pedroso, a guided excursion to the Minas de La Lima is offered on private property.

Within the municipality of El Pedroso, the town council sets up street stalls managed by Artesanos Pedroseños. The participating craftspeople sell handcrafted products they have made themselves there.
