Puerto Moral – Church, Mill Route and Reservoir

Puerto Moral is located in the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park. Those exploring the town can focus on different aspects, ranging from cultural and historical sites to landscape features.

For planning purposes, the range of themes can be organised into four perspectives: architecture in terms of style and building history, mills in terms of technology and visits, landscape in terms of bodies of water and views, and the Nativity scene in terms of settings and craftsmanship.

Culture

The Iglesia de San Pedro y San Pablo is protected as an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC). The building was designed in the Gothic-Renaissance style with a single-nave layout. Construction probably began in the 13th or 14th century; the church was remodelled in the 16th and 18th centuries. For your visit, its protected status, architectural form and the successive phases of its construction history can be considered separately.

Another cultural highlight is Molino Tolete. The mill is part of a recreational route prepared for visits along the Barranco de la Madrona, south of Puerto Moral’s town centre. At Molino 2, the traditional mill technology was faithfully reconstructed, allowing the mill to be operated properly once again. Molino 2 is shown to tourists on request. For planning purposes, the prepared route, the technical reconstruction and the visit on request are provided as separate pieces of information.

Nature

El Pantano is located in the north of the municipality of Puerto Moral on the Rivera de las Yerbas; there are areas prepared for tourism in its immediate surroundings. On the access road to El Pantano, there is a viewpoint overlooking the reservoir as well as areas of the provinces of Huelva and Badajoz. The location of the body of water, the prepared areas in its immediate surroundings and the viewpoint on the access road can be understood as distinct aspects of the landscape.

Experiences

Since 2011, the town of Bethlehem has been recreated in Puerto Moral through numerous scenes performed by local residents. The Nativity scene involves visitors through interaction with the performers and the landscape. It invites visitors to discover numerous traditional crafts. In this format, scenes, performers, landscape and traditional crafts come together as interconnected elements. For your travel planning, you can compare cultural visits with this staged recreation as different types of experience.

When considering a holiday apartment in Puerto Moral, you can first compare your travel dates, the apartment size or room category and the cancellation conditions on the respective listing page. This information relates to the specific offer and can be considered independently of whether your interest lies in the church, the Mill Route, the reservoir or the Nativity scene.
