Culture

Cortelazor’s historic urban fabric is characterized by narrow, steep streets, irregular blocks of houses and stone paving adapted to the terrain. The Iglesia Parroquial Nuestra Señora de los Remedios was built between 1565 and 1587 and expanded in the 18th century. The church contains 16th-century wall paintings as well as a 1748 painting of the Divina Pastora by Alonso Miguel de Tovar.

The Museo de Pintura Pérez Guerra opened on August 4, 2001. The old Ermita de la Virgen de la Coronada is one of the notable sights associated with Cortelazor. Architectural history, religious art and painting appear here as distinct cultural topics alongside one another.

Nature

Charco Malo is a pool formed by a waterfall in a shaded valley near Cortelazor. Trails

Los Callejones is a paved path that runs parallel to the mill stream and crosses the source area of the Ribera de las Uerbas via a stone bridge. The Camino de Valdelarco begins at Calleja del Arroyo Abajo, leads uphill and offers a view of Cortelazor.

The Camino de Valdelarco is marked with yellow-and-white bands, although the path can become unclear in some places. The Romería de la Virgen de la Coronada takes place on the second Sunday in May and includes a procession from the village to the pilgrimage church. During the Cruces de Mayo, doors and streets are decorated with adorned cross altars. The blessing of hornazos, bread rolls and traditional sweets is also customary.

The Certamen Nacional de Pintura al Aire Libre de Cortelazor la Real has taken place every summer since 1999. The event dates mentioned provide a distinct temporal focus alongside the town’s history, nature and trails.

Cortelazor’s traditional cuisine includes game dishes featuring venison and wild boar, artisan goat cheese and cured meats, chestnuts and seasonal mushrooms.
