Culture

In the Barrio Bajo district of Pinos del Valle stands the Iglesia de la Inmaculada, built between 1561 and 1566. Its floor plan follows the shape of a Latin cross, with a barrel vault above. Its features include a Neoclassical-style tabernacle and polychrome carvings from the schools of Mena and Martínez Montañés.

The Iglesia de la Concepción in Pinos del Valle was also designated a Bien de Interés Cultural in the Monument category by Decree 16/2004 of 27 January 2004. For a cultural exploration, the architectural form, furnishings and formal heritage category can be understood here as different levels of information.

Festivals and Craftsmanship

The Fiestas de San Roque are celebrated in Pinos del Valle on 16 August in honour of the local patron saint, San Roque. This festival includes the well-known Revoloteo de la Bandera in each of the two districts, Barrio Alto and Barrio Bajo.

Another cultural tradition can be found in traditional tulle embroidery: since the 1920s, several generations of women in Pinos del Valle have embroidered mantillas and veils made of needlepoint tulle at home. This work uses silk threads on black or white tulle; motifs include leaves, lace and openwork.

When planning your trip, you can weigh cultural impressions, connections with the landscape and destinations in the surrounding area separately. This allows different interests to be considered side by side without prescribing a fixed order.
