Chauchina between Torre de Roma and Vega Baja

Chauchina is home to the Torre de Roma, which is classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural and was built in the 13th or 14th century. The approximately 14-metre-high Nasrid tower has three floors with barrel vaults, a terrace and a cistern. It was within sight of the Alhambra and Castillo de Moclín.
Culture
The Iglesia de Nuestro Señor de la Humildad is dedicated to Santo Cristo de la Humildad. The present-day church dates from 1982 and has a central nave and two side aisles, which are connected to the central nave by round arches.
The Ermita de la Virgen del Espino, also known as Virgen del Pincho, has been venerated by the inhabitants of Chauchina for a century. The image of the Virgen del Espino is kept in the Ermita by Capuchin Poor Clares. The first chapel of the Ermita was inaugurated in 1918. According to local tradition, the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to a local woman at the site of the Ermita in 1906.
La Peana is a remnant of one of the columns of the Palacio de Carlos V. The Asociación Museo Pinballica maintains, restores and preserves pinball machines. In Chauchina, it was also a museum and a space for recreational games. In Chauchina, it opened its premises to the public for playing pinball machines.
Landscape and trails
The Ruta de la Vega a la Torre de Roma begins beside the Ermita de la Virgen del Espino, also known as Virgen del Pincho. From there, it continues to the Iglesia de Nuestro Señor de la Humildad. The route passes through the Vega Baja between cultivated areas and irrigation canals and runs parallel to the Río Genil. The natural surroundings of Chauchina are characterised by the poplar groves along the Río Genil.
Music and traditions
The Certamen de Bandas de Música de Andalucía began in 1989 and has been held continuously since then under the direction and leadership of the Ayuntamiento de Chauchina. It promotes the dissemination and appreciation of Andalusian music and its composers. During Semana Santa 2026, a traditional Good Friday procession was celebrated in Chauchina. Hornazo is eaten at a traditional festival in Chauchina.
Active pursuits
The Saucina Bike Race is a non-competitive mountain biking event. It passes through the municipal areas of Chauchina, Fuente Vaqueros, Láchar, Chimeneas and Santa Fe.
