Slovenske Konjice: Holiday Apartment Between Hiking Trails and Vineyards
Slovenske Konjice can be explored through hiking trails, historic sites, museums and regional products. Between Konjiška gora above the town, the historic Stari trg and the offerings centred around honey and wine, there are various ways to experience the area. Shorter paths and longer tours are also part of the town’s appeal.
Nature and Active Trails
Above Slovenske Konjice, Konjiška gora offers a network of hiking trails, forest educational paths, parks and other recreational opportunities in the woods. A longer route starts at the Slovenske Konjice cemetery: the Slovenske Konjice–Stolpnik hike is 13 km long, with the distance given for the outward and return journey, and leads to a 25-metre-high observation tower. The Slovenske Konjice–Skala hike is shorter. It leads from the town’s sports centre over 3 km, also as an outward and return journey, to a viewpoint on Konjiška gora.
The Zmajčkova gozdna učna pot complements this network as a 3 km forest educational trail with 12 information stations. Another option is the Slovenske Konjice–Zlati Grič cycling route. It starts at Mestni trg, is 2.77 km long and runs over asphalt and gravel. This provides a choice of different distances and surfaces.
History and Urban Space
Stari trg preserves the historic structure of Slovenske Konjice and is suitable for walks. A stream is one of its defining features. Together with the town park, Stari trg acquired its present appearance after renovation in 2013 and is regarded as a particularly visitor-friendly place.
The remains of the castle are another part of the area’s historical heritage. They are among the most significant castle ruins in Styria; the castle was first mentioned in 1165. The Muzej gasilstva Dravinjske doline offers a different perspective on the past and is known for its collections on the cultural and social history of firefighters. The PGD Slovenske Konjice museum can be visited by prior arrangement.
Honey, Wine and Golf
At Čebelarstvo Žvikart, visitors can enjoy tastings of sweet honey products. Čebelarstvo Žvikart also showcases its beekeeping operation and explains the importance of apiculture. The Zlati grič wine shop offers wines from Slovenske Konjice as well as homemade dishes from the surrounding area.
The golf course in Škalce is also among the town’s attractions. It is located among vineyards in the immediate vicinity of the centre of Slovenske Konjice and has 9 holes.
