Holiday apartment in Paka – hiking trail to the Paka spring and chapels
Paka is associated with the marked themed trail “Tematska pot od Hude luknje do izvira reke Pake”. The officially named hiking trail leads to the source of the Paka and is connected with Paka. The source of the Paka lies in the forests of the Pohorje at an altitude of 1,412 metres, below the Volovica plateau. On the way there, the water flows over larger and smaller granite blocks and forms small waterfalls. At the source, an information board explains the special features of this part of the Pohorje. The trail’s name refers both to Huda luknja and to the source of the Paka, making its route recognisable as a themed trail. The altitude also clearly places the source in the forest landscape of the Pohorje and below the Volovica plateau.
Nature
The landscape in the immediate vicinity of Paka is complemented by several named mountains. Glažutska Planina is a mountain near Paka, as is Volovica. The mountains Basališče and Črni Vrh are also located in the area around Paka. The names refer to different spatial contexts: Volovica also designates the plateau below the source, while Glažutska Planina, Basališče and Črni Vrh are named as mountains in the nearer or wider surroundings of Paka. Thus, the landscape description focuses both on the elevation of the source and on several independently named mountains. The references range from the immediate vicinity to the wider surroundings of Paka, without grouping the named mountains into a single landform.
Culture
Small structures and memorial sites are also part of the local landscape. At the Požeg farmstead, a memorial monument commemorates an attack on 18 February 1944 in which twelve Partisans were killed. The monument consists of an unworked granite monolith with a star and three cast-iron plaques. Its design thus combines the historical commemorative purpose with clearly identified materials and forms.
The Ošlakova kapelica stands beside a road near the house at Paka 84. Inside, there is a niche with a crucifix and a statue of the Virgin Mary with the Child; the chapel is covered by a tiled gabled roof. The Ošlakova kapelica was restored in 1995. At that time, a statue of the Virgin Mary was acquired; previously, a cross had stood in its place.
The Termotova kapelica, dating from 1933, was restored not long ago. The enclosed chapel has pronounced corner edges and a tympanum; inside are two side niches and a glazed central niche. It stands in a pasture beside the path to the Ošlakova farmstead with its chapel. In the wider regional surroundings of Paka there are also Graščina v Selah, a castle, and Sankt Leonhard, a monastery.
