Discover Podlonk – Trails, Memorial Heritage and History
Podlonk is a place with forest trails, historic memorials and a settlement history closely connected with the Selška Valley and Ratitovec. Architectural heritage and sites of remembrance provide insights into the past. As a result, landscape, activity and history come together here in a way that makes the place accessible through several themes.
Nature
The Ratitovec Klasik course follows a forest road towards Podlonk and reaches the edge of the settlement at the Žetlar farm. From there, the corresponding section continues to the hunting lodge in Prtovč. The Ratitovec Trail runs along forest roads and paths past Podlonk and then climbs to Prtovč. The two routes therefore describe different trail courses between the forest, the edge of the settlement, the farm, the hunting lodge and the climb to Prtovč. On Ratitovec Klasik, the connection to Podlonk is at the edge of the settlement by the Žetlar farm, while the Ratitovec Trail passes the place along its route. In both descriptions, the section at or past Podlonk is followed by the further climb towards Prtovč.
Culture and History
The architectural heritage of Podlonk includes Domačija Podlonk 8. The site's memorial heritage also includes the Spominska plošča Jožetu Mihevcu-Rudarju, the Spominska plošča relejni kurirski postaji G-1 and the Spominski kamen posvetovanju aktivistov OF. Each of the three memorials forms part of Podlonk's memorial heritage and supplements the architectural heritage with specific historical points of reference.
The settlement history also goes further back. Podlonk was part of the first colonization wave, also known as the medieval colonization, which affected the eastern part of the Selška Valley. The Soriška colonization extended across the entire area below Ratitovec, from Sorica to Podlonk. The only foreign settlers established in this area were German-speaking Tyroleans from the Puster Valley. This historical classification connects the first colonization wave with a geographically described area: the eastern part of the Selška Valley and the area below Ratitovec between Sorica and Podlonk are named. The Tyroleans who settled there are expressly described as the only foreign settlers in this area and as German-speaking.

As of December 1, 2022, Apartma Pr' Grogori in Podlonk had one apartment with four beds. Also as of December 1, 2022, Apartmaji pr Potokar in Podlonk had two apartments with a total of eight beds. Both accommodation details therefore refer to the same date. The first entry lists a single apartment, while the second lists two apartments; the stated capacities are four beds and a total of eight beds, respectively.
Winter and Cycling
A winter sports event is also associated with Podlonk: the “Vaška smučarska tekma na Lonku” was held on Sunday, January 29, as the third traditional giant slalom. Members of ŠKTD Podlonk and other residents of Podlonk, Prtovč and Draboslovica were eligible to participate. The competition took place in two runs on the local Lonk.
For longer cycling tours, there is the 390-kilometre Loška kolesarska pot. It is divided into 13 stages and leads from Železniki via Podlonk back to Železniki. Podlonk therefore also appears within a connection laid out over several stages between Železniki and the starting point. The route thus names both the starting and return point, Železniki, and lists Podlonk as a place on the connection between the two points. The total length and the division into 13 stages remain separate details.
