Holiday apartment in Tomaj – culture, Kosovelova pot and Karst landscape
Tomaj combines a cultural monument, traces of Tomaj–Tabor, the signposted Kosovelova pot and views of the varied Karst landscape. The church, literary history, archaeology, hiking and viticulture reveal the different facets of the town.
Culture and history
St. Peter and Paul Church in Tomaj is a cultural monument of local significance (EŠD 4071). Its exterior is based on Late Gothic architecture and already shows Renaissance influences. The interior features two side marble inlaid altars, Rococo stucco on the ceiling of the nave, and paintings by Mara and Tone Kralj.
Tomaj–Tabor is another historic site: the area is a prehistoric hillfort and an early medieval burial ground. An ancient settlement has been identified in the middle of Tomaj–Tabor, next to the church. Tomaj–Tabor can be reached via a village road that leads through the settlement to St. Peter and Paul Church.
Literature and remembrance
The Kosovelova domačija in Tomaj was the home of the Slovenian avant-garde poet Srečko Kosovel and his family. A memorial collection of the Kosovel family can be seen at the Kosovelova domačija. The renovated Kosovelova domačija is also a modern space for cultural, educational and tourist content.
Hiking
The Kosovelova pot can be started in Tomaj. The signposted trail is easy to walk, 7 km long and takes around two and a half hours at a leisurely pace. Along the way, the Kosovelova pot offers views of the varied Karst landscape.
Wine and tradition
At the Škerlj wine cellar in Tomaj, tastings of its wines and homemade air-dried meat products, including prosciutto, are offered. The Petelin-Rogelja farm offers a visit to its wine cellar with a wine tasting and a snack. During the visit to the farm, the family history up to 1640 is presented; old documents relating to the Karst tradition of viticulture and winemaking are also shown.
When comparing holiday apartments in Tomaj, it is worth taking an objective look at the respective offer page. The availability, type of accommodation and cost breakdown can first be checked there. Possible additional costs, check-in and check-out arrangements, and the conditions for changes or cancellation are important. If several offers are under consideration, these fields can be viewed side by side. Pay attention to the specific wording regarding prices, availability and services, and distinguish included components from optional items. Information on minimum stays, payment deadlines and withdrawal conditions should also be checked in the offer. When there are different price lines, compare whether final cleaning, taxes or other fees are already included or listed separately. Also read the deadlines and conditions in full before comparing the offers with one another. This keeps the comparison objective and limited to the respective offer page.
