Kozina reveals its distinctive features along paths through the Karst landscape, at historic sites and in places connected with community life. Between Rodik, Klanec and the town centre, prehistoric traces, former railway tracks, easy hikes and regional event venues come together to create a diverse destination.

Culture and history

The older history includes Ajdovščina nad Rodikom, a prehistoric and ancient settlement on a prominent hill above Rodik. Its settlement is documented for the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. The path to Ajdovščina nad Rodikom begins in Rodik and follows the route towards Artviže to the prehistoric fortification.

In Klanec stands the Church of St Peter and St Paul, Cerkev sv. Petra in Pavla v Klancu, which was built in several construction phases between 1659 and 1670. A mighty linden tree grows beside the church and has stood there for several centuries. Klanec is also home to the visitor centre of Beka Landscape Park. It houses a technical museum with an old water pump used to supply steam locomotives; a permanent exhibition on the natural and cultural features of the park is also on display.

Landscape and trails

Beka Landscape Park offers an easy circular route, Beka–Botač–Beka, which takes approximately two to three hours. The Markovska pastirska pot features benches, marked rocks, railings and a small bridge. The route leads from a new roundabout at the bunker past the rocks, Bezljak and Bičun, and back to the roundabout.

Several trails draw on the history and geological formations of the surrounding area. “Along the former railway track” is an easy hiking and cycling tour through the Karst landscape. The route runs from Kozina to Trieste and vice versa. Several former railway stations and railway facilities have been preserved along the former railway line, including tunnels carved into the rock. The route is considered a unique monument to industrial heritage.

The Friendship Trail connects Bagnoli della Rosandra (Boljunec), Botač, Beka and Ocizla. In the area of the Glinščica Valley, it follows a historic salt-trading route that was used for many centuries by merchants from Carniola. The “On the flysch and limestone” trail begins in the vicinity of Kozina and leads back to Kozina; it is suitable for trekking and mountain biking.

There is also a designated open space within Kozina: Park Žaga is designated as a recreational open space. Kozina also has a station for the destination’s automatic e-bike rental system.

Events and community life

The programme of the Hrpelje–Kozina municipal festival in Kozina combines sports and leisure activities with public entertainment. Park Žaga and Mestni trg in Kozina serve as venues for this municipal festival, whose 2024 and 2025 programmes there included sports, leisure and entertainment activities.

A town pavilion with a flat green roof is planned for Mestni trg. It is intended to provide space for a tourist information office. The planned status remains decisive: the pavilion is described as a project, not as a facility that has already been completed.

Visitor information

The visitor information centre of Mitski Park is located at Rodik 6, 6240 Kozina. It provides information about the Municipality of Hrpelje–Kozina, the surrounding municipalities and tourist attractions in the area. TIC Hrpelje–Kozina is located at Hrpelje, Reška cesta 14, 6240 Kozina.
