Nature

Planina Cave is home to Europe's largest confluence of underground rivers. The Pivka and Rak rivers emerge from Planina Cave as the Unica River.

Pivka Cave is one of the last two karst caves along the underground Pivka River before it disappears and re-emerges in Planina Cave. In Pivka Cave, a tour follows the underground Pivka River. Black Cave offers a cave tour through large chambers and horizontal passages with dark stalactites and stalagmites.

Culture

Visitors with combination tickets for Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle can, if available, use a paid shuttle bus between the two attractions. Predjama Castle offers a guided tour via an app, which is included in the admission price.

The Vivarium is located 50 metres from the entrance to Postojna Cave and includes a cave biology exhibition about karst landscapes, the underground environment and typical cave animals. The exhibition in the Vivarium is self-guided, allowing visitors to explore it at their own pace.

The Stara Dama Museum is located in the visitor centre of Predjama Castle and features a collection on the Isonzo Front in the First World War and a hunting collection. The hunting collection at the Stara Dama Museum presents local forest animals, various forms of hunting, the work of hunters and forest rangers, as well as historical hunting equipment.

Hiking and Cycling

The Great Krpan Trail is a 110-kilometre circular route through the Primorsko-notranjska region, passing natural and cultural attractions such as intermittent lakes, karst caves, castle ruins and preserved manor houses. The Great Krpan Trail is primarily a marked hiking trail and is also suitable for cycling, with the exception of four sections where short detours are required. After crossing Kalič, the Great Krpan Trail reaches Postojna and then leads back through the valley to Pivka.

The mountains Mali Javornik, Veliki Javornik and Sveta Trojica are located in the vicinity of Postojna. In the wider regional area around Postojna lies the ruin of Hošperk Castle. The historical site The Roman fortress Castra, the Vedetta di S. Lorenzo viewpoint and the Sveti Vid church are also located there.
