Holiday apartment in Malečnik: Culture, Wine and Trails

Malečnik combines impressive cultural sites with a wine tradition and a network of trails that provides access to various routes through the surrounding area. One of the distinctive experiences is a visit to the catacombs: The parish priest at the time, Dr Janez Sittich, had them created in 1730 and served as parish priest from 1724 to 1759. Visits can be arranged through the parish by email or telephone.

Culture

The “Church of Our Lady on Gorca” is also one of the notable cultural sites. It was built in the Gothic style and stands on a 346-metre-high vantage point. The Glaserjev salon z galerijo displays more than 20 paintings from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The salon is also intended for chamber concerts, exhibitions, lectures and various types of meetings.

The Studio Lončarstvo Roj Pottery offers further insights into traditional crafts, where visitors can try out the potter’s wheel. A historic trace of the wine industry is the oldest wine press in Malečnik. It bears the year 1848 and has three levels.

Wine and Cuisine

The Župnijska vinska klet offers culinary and wine-related experiences. At Fontana vin Vodole, visitors can walk among the barrels of local winemakers with a special chip glass and select their own wine combination.

In addition to wine, Fontana vin Vodole offers a varied culinary selection: This includes cold cuts from local producers, smoked pork knuckles, homemade cheeses, as well as vegetarian and vegan dishes. At the Valentan ecological tourism farm in Vodole, wine tastings are offered daily from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. by prior arrangement.

The Emil tourism farm also has its own range of products: Guests can enjoy wines from its own wine cellar, homemade sparkling wine, various spirits and apple juice. The Posestvo Sončni raj estate also offers the “Čebelji let” zipline, which can be used in both directions.

Trails and Landscape

The Malečnik trail network has 40 signposts and an interactive map. This makes it possible to create individual routes or choose recommended routes of varying lengths and difficulty levels. One of these connections is called “Po poti lepot in dobrot”. It begins at the Črni Baron Motel in Malečnik and follows a well-marked old pilgrimage footpath to Gorca.

In Vodole, the “smreka velikanka” is considered a natural attraction of national significance. The location thus connects another named landscape landmark with the cultural and wine offerings presented at the various facilities described.

Accessibility

From Maribor, Malečnik can be reached on foot or by various means of transport via the old road towards Pernica. This allows the location to be explored both via its own network of trails and via the connection from Maribor.
