Škofljica lies on the southeastern edge of the Ljubljana Marshes. The surrounding area has several hiking trails and cycling routes, as well as historic buildings, churches and themed trails with their own specific focuses. This brings marshland, nature observation and culture together within a compact thematic area.

Culture

The sights that can be visited near Škofljica include Lisičje Castle. It is designated as a cultural monument of local importance because of its cultural, art-historical and architectural, historical and landscape values. The castle was built in the mid-16th century and acquired its present appearance at the end of the 18th century. Various cultural events take place at Lisičje Manor; it is also used for weddings.

Religious art is also part of the character of the surrounding area. The Gothic Church of Saint Ursula is known for its late Gothic frescoes, including the oldest fresco depicting a Slovenian landscape. The Church of Saints Simon and Jude contains frescoes by the important painter Janez Ljubljanski. The “Pohod v modrem” combines a hike with a visit to a blooming flax field, the Church of Saint Ursula and Lisičje Manor. The event also includes a tasting of flax potica.

Trails

The Svarunova Trail has 33 information boards and telephone information about natural, cultural and historical sights. The trail is 23 km long and requires approximately five hours of moderate walking. An organised Svarunova Trail hiking day has traditionally been held for 24 years on 25 June, Slovenian Statehood Day.

The Pijavška Moor Trail is 8 km long and takes approximately two to three hours at a moderate walking pace. It has several boards describing the historical and cultural heritage. The trail also passes typical marsh plants and animals, as well as a drinking-water collection point. The Čemšeniška Castles Trail is 12 km long and takes approximately three to four hours at a moderate walking pace. It is marked with green-and-yellow markings and information boards.

Nature

Park čutil is a themed leisure and recreation park in Škofljica that represents marsh biotopes and supports learning about the municipality’s natural environment. The Koliščarska steza in Park čutil includes walking paths and benches for resting. The park also includes a biotope for birds and ducks.

Another way to explore the area’s natural features is the forest educational trail. It begins at the memorial to the victims of fascist violence in Drglerija, after travelling from Škofljica Primary School towards Zalog. The forest educational trail provides knowledge about typical tree species and life in the forest.

Connections

Škofljica lies on the Ljubljana–Kočevje road and the Ljubljana–Grosuplje–Metlika railway line. The Pijavška Moor Trail can be reached by bus via Škofljica and then by a connection to Pijava Gorica. This names both the town’s road and rail connections and the specifically described connection to this moor trail.

The included services, individual price components, and the booking and cancellation conditions are equally important. This makes it possible to calmly compare the available information about the offers without assuming features that are not explicitly stated.
