Nature and trails

The Pot na Mah is a compact circular trail. It starts at Goričica pod Krimom 29, 1352 Preserje, is 3.8 km long and is suitable for hiking or cycling. There are seven information stations along the route. Bicycle racks and benches are available at the Goriški mah point; additional benches are located at the bird-watching station and the outdoor classroom.

The Pentlja Planinska obhodnica provides a longer trail connection through Preserje. It is divided into 18 sections and marked throughout with the Knafelc marking and Pentlja’s lying-eight symbol. In Preserje, the Pentlja meets the hiking trail from Preserje to the railway station and then continues towards Kamnik.

A natural viewpoint is the hill of St. Anne above the Ljubljana Marshes. From there, you can see a mosaic-like landscape of meadows, fields, hedgerows and bodies of water. Mount Srebotnik is located in the vicinity of Preserje. The mountains Krim, Kamenica and Novaška Gora are also nearby.

Culture

The Church of St. Vitus in Preserje is protected as a cultural monument of local importance because of its historical, artistic and architectural-historical, as well as ethnological, significance. The centrally planned Baroque building was constructed in 1711. It features an octagonal nave, an octagonal presbytery of the same height, domed roofs and a bell tower on the north side.

The painted decoration is also part of the church interior’s traditional appearance: the presbytery dome was painted in 1870 and the nave walls in 1871 by Janez Šubic. Trpin painted the nave dome in 1910.

Another historic building is the Preserje parish barn. Both floors have vaulted ceilings, and it has small granary windows with wrought-iron grilles as well as a wrought-iron gate in the raised basement or storage area bearing the year 1837. The barn is built of rubble stone and has brick rosettes on the gables.

The Emona House Archaeological Park museum complex, Ljubljana Castle and the Prešeren Monument are also located in the vicinity of Preserje. The Hošperk Castle ruins are located in the wider regional area.
