Holiday apartment in Planina pod Golico: daffodil meadows and mining history

Planina pod Golico combines blooming mountain daffodils with an engaging mining history and a variety of trails. Among daffodil meadows, historic traces of mining and the slopes around Golica are experiences that take on a character of their own in different seasons. Winter is also part of the area: the chairlift to Španov vrh and the Sava Caves natural toboggan run add sporting opportunities to the picture.

Nature

Planina pod Golico is a starting point for visiting the daffodil meadows. Traditional land-management methods are used to preserve them between Plavški Rovt, Prihodi, Planina pod Golico and Javorniški Rovt; in addition, late mowing is regularly carried out in June. In May in particular, the circular trail from Planina pod Golico to the summit of Golica shows its characteristic side: fragrant mountain daffodils then cover the slopes in white. The bloom does not shape just individual meadows, but forms part of a larger landscape area that connects several places.

During the daffodil bloom, TIC Planina pod Golico opens in the premises of the local community. There you can find information about the area's sights as well as hiking maps.

Culture

The “Old Mining Route” leads from Stara Sava via Murova, Pejce, Prihodi and Planina pod Golico to Savske jame. It is of moderate difficulty, has an elevation difference of 600 m and takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes. The route therefore connects several named stops and makes the relationship between Planina pod Golico and the Savske jame mining area visible along one continuous trail.

The Savske jame iron ore deposit is one of the oldest in Slovenia. The entrance to the Korlnov rov has also been preserved in the mining area. Along the area of Savske jame, information boards point out further mines and mining facilities. The church provides another cultural facet: it has now been restored, is well preserved and continues to serve its religious purpose. Thus, preserved traces of ore mining and a religious building that is still in use stand side by side within a small thematic area.

Winter

A chairlift runs from Planina pod Golico to Španov vrh and has been in operation since 1964, with only minor interruptions. Španov vrh serves as a starting point for many hikes throughout the year and is used by ski tourers and alpine skiers in winter. The Sava Caves natural toboggan run is also located in Planina pod Golico, in the Sava Caves area. When there is sufficient snow, it is 700 m long and suitable for family tobogganing. Night tobogganing is also possible for closed groups of up to 40 people by prior arrangement.

The area's offering therefore includes different forms of activity: hikes starting from Španov vrh are possible all year round, while the toboggan run depends on sufficient snow cover. Night tobogganing is additionally subject to a clear condition, namely prior arrangement for closed groups of up to the stated number of people.
