Kranjska Gora combines more than 20 marked hiking and walking trails with lakes, protected areas and part of Triglav National Park. The Kranjska Gora ski resort offers 21 ski runs with varying levels of technical difficulty. Those considering a holiday apartment in Kranjska Gora will find a place where nature experiences, physical activity, culture and regional history are closely interwoven.

Nature and Trails

Lake Jasna can be reached from the centre of Kranjska Gora in just a few minutes via a footpath. Around the lake, visitors can use the footbridges and walking paths. The Zelenci nature reserve, which is designated as a Natura 2000 site, is also located nearby. It includes the source of the Sava Dolinka and the Drni marshes. A well-maintained forest path and a wooden footbridge lead visitors to Zelenci; next to the area, a lookout tower offers views of the emerald-green lake and the Ponce Mountains.

Part of Kranjska Gora extends into Triglav National Park. Misija Eliksir is also located there, an outdoor escape-room experience featuring 90 minutes of logic and dexterity puzzles as well as following a map. Participants collect the equipment and receive the initial instructions in Kranjska Gora. Another guided activity also begins in Kranjska Gora: a visit to Kekčeva dežela takes visitors to the attraction by special bus. There, the offering includes a ride on the Bedancbus, slides, a high-altitude trail through the treetops and a secret tunnel.

Active Experiences

For cycling, the Kranjska Gora Bike Park is available. It is Slovenia’s oldest mountain bike park and has been in operation since 2004. Its trails span an elevation difference of around 300 metres and are designed for all levels of experience and technical ability. The Vitranc 1 four-seater chairlift takes visitors to the top of the park. The Brsnina lift serves the Brsnina Trails, which are also suitable for beginners. In winter, the Kranjska Gora ski resort supplements this offering with its 21 ski runs and varying levels of technical difficulty.

Culture and History

Since its renovation in 1983, Liznjek House has operated as an ethnological museum. The house was built in the second half of the 17th century and features characteristics of peasant Baroque from the 18th and early 19th centuries. Another historical trace leads across the Vršič Pass: the road connects Kranjska Gora with Log in Trenta, was built by Russian prisoners of war during the First World War and is also known as the “Russian Road”.

In the area around Kranjska Gora, the Russian Chapel and the grave of a Russian soldier serve as memorial sites commemorating the connection with Russian soldiers and the First World War. Also nearby, in Mojstrana, the permanent exhibition at the Slovenian Alpine Museum takes visitors through preparations for mountaineering, mountain huts and summit ascents. After visiting the museum, visitors can solve puzzles and codes, avoid mountain-themed traps and escape to a bivouac.

Regional Impressions

In the wider region around Kranjska Gora, local family-run inns serve regional specialities such as various types of carp. The area thus extends from the footpath around Lake Jasna and trails through nature to historical memorial sites, an alpine exhibition and regional cuisine.
