The Domžalska pot spominov is a mountain hiking trail and is one of the long-distance hiking trails recognised under the Mountain Trails Act. The trail is over 100 kilometres long and runs at altitudes between 300 and 957 metres, reaching Špilk above Blagovica.
Hiking and cycling
The well-marked Pravljični Šumberk route is 3.54 kilometres long and takes a family around three hours to complete. The first checkpoint of the Domžalska pot spominov is in Domžale, at a monument next to the footbridge over the Kamniška Bistrica.
Along the Pot ob Kamniški Bistrici, there are rest areas with drinking fountains, children's playgrounds and outdoor fitness equipment. The Domžalska čebelarska učna pot is almost 8 kilometres long; along it, visitors can discover beekeeping and its history.
The MTB poligon Šumberk has marked trails with different levels of difficulty for recreational cyclists and mountain bike training. The Slamnata kitka cycling route begins and ends in Domžale and follows minor roads through extensive fields along the Kamniška Bistrica.
Culture and history
The Slamnikarski muzej Domžale features a permanent exhibition on 300 years of straw hat weaving in the Domžale area. On display are typical Domžale straw hats, the tools used to make them, manufacturing methods and related stories. The museum offers school groups themed tours with hands-on creative workshops.
The Mestni kino Domžale focuses its film programme primarily on art-house and auteur films, while also offering high-quality content for children and young people. A Baroque garden pavilion has been restored in the former park of Dvorec Češenik. Grad Krumperk is a Renaissance castle with a square ground plan, characteristic corner towers and a rare surviving corbel-supported roof cornice.
The local theatre production at Poletno gledališče Studenec was first performed in 1949. Poletno gledališče Studenec is Slovenia's third-largest covered open-air theatre. The Church of Marije Vnebovzete na Goričici stands at a site with a church history dating back to the Middle Ages.
Nature and museums
Knezove skale is an outdoor climbing area with views of the Kamniška Bistrica and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. It has 23 equipped climbing routes with difficulty ratings from 3 to 7b.
Železna jama has two chambers connected by a passage and bridges. It is known for its curved stalactites, whose shape was influenced by the wind during their formation.
The Jamarski muzej can be visited at Jamarski dom, with permanent exhibitions on display. These include a speleological collection featuring stalactites and stalagmites from the collection of naturalist Franc Hohenwart dating from the early 18th century. The Robič natural history collection at the Jamarski muzej includes a special species of blind beetle named after biospeleologist and explorer Simon Robič.
Leisure
Konjeniški center Brdo pri Ihanu offers visitors an introduction to horses and the opportunity for recreational riding. Riding courses for beginners and advanced participants are offered for younger and older riders.
Kopališče Domžale includes an Olympic-size pool, two massage pools, a paddling pool and a teaching pool with a slide. Kuhna na plac was introduced as a street-food event in 2016 and was scheduled for the first Saturday of each month from April to October.
