Holiday apartment in Dobeno: Rašica, trails and culture

At the edge of a karst inselberg, Dobeno lies on the eastern and southeastern slopes of Rašica. At the foot of Dobeno lies the Planik wetland, which belongs to the Rašica Natura 2000 site. Dobeno offers views and peaceful trails.

Nature and landscape

The terraces of Dobeno offer views of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps, the Domžale and Mengeš basins, Ljubljana and the surrounding hills. Above Dobeno, Kraljeva jama features stalactites, curtains and pointed formations. The landscape therefore ranges from the slopes of Rašica and the wetland at the foot of the village to the viewpoints and the cave above Dobeno.

Culture and history

Beside the road through Dobeno towards Rašica stands a monument to six fallen fighters, unveiled in 1946. In 2004, an exceptional bronze full-hilt sword was found in a sinkhole in Upper Dobeno. The sword associated with Upper Dobeno is estimated to be 4,000 years old. The tradition of house names in Dobeno is entered in the Slovenian Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Trails and elevations

Spodnje Dobeno is checkpoint 21 of the Domžalska pot spominov and lies at an elevation of 395 m. Dobeno is a starting point for hikes to the summit of Stane Kosec on Rašica, which is listed as being 631 m high. The 9 km Trzinka hiking trail passes through Dobeno.

In the immediate vicinity, the signposted Dobeno–Rašica trail leads from the Mengeška koča mountain hut towards the summit of Stane Kosec. At the summit of Stane Kosec, this trail reaches the foot of a 17 m-high observation tower. Dobeno can be reached on foot or by bicycle via one of the marked trails.

Practical information

Dobeno can be reached via a paved road from Loka pri Mengšu. There is no designated public car park in Dobeno; vehicles should be left in the valley.
