Holiday apartment in Trojane – Atrans, trails and doughnut tradition
A notable gateway to Trojane leads back to Roman times: back then, the place was known as Atrans as a trading and transport hub. To this day, the name points to a history in which routes, supply and movement played an important role. Added to this are scenic trails around Učak Pass and a culinary tradition that connects Trojane with travelers.
Culture and history
The Atrans archaeological site is classified as cultural heritage of national importance. Its extent illustrates the site's former function: the complex includes a road station, a customs house, a military camp, a road and a burial site. Finds from Atrans also include a pottery workshop with two kilns and a drying room. Thus, different traces of everyday Roman life stand side by side in one place – transport, trade, military presence, crafts and burial.
Geographical location
Trojane lies directly below Učak Pass on the Ljubljana–Celje regional road. At this road, the road to Zagorje ob Savi branches off. The pass and the road connection are therefore just as much part of the local landscape as Atrans's archaeological remains. The names of the historical site and today's transport routes mark two chronological layers that directly follow one another in Trojane.
Trails
The E6 route is classified as an easy mountain hiking trail and is marked with yellow-red markings. Another connection is the Rokovnjaška planinska pot: it runs from the Doline area via Zavrh pri Trojanah and Učak Pass to Trojane. The surroundings of the village therefore document both a mountain hiking trail classified as easy and a route with several named sections and a pass crossing.
For touring cyclists, the Slovenian Transversal leads from Trojane to Dom na Čemšeniški planini. The route covers 10.7 kilometers and approximately 630 meters of ascent. Its specific course, destination and approximate elevation gain give this connection a distinctly different profile from the E6 trail. The two routes remain clearly distinguishable through their own names, markings and trail data.
Local tradition
Today, Trojane is regarded as a center for doughnuts for travelers. Since 1849, Gostinsko podjetje Trojane has preserved the traditions of a traditional Slovenian inn. The doughnuts and the long history of this gastronomic establishment thus stand alongside Atrans as another recognizable point of reference for the place.
Gostinsko podjetje Trojane is listed as a caravan site of the Municipality of Lukovica.
