Holiday apartment in Sobotište – Manor House, Habán Court and White Carpathians

In the centre of Sobotište stands the Nyáryovský Manor House. The building was constructed in 1631 and now houses a museum.

Culture and history

The notable religious buildings include the Protestant church, which was built in 1783–1784 as a Toleration Church without a tower. The Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and its grounds have been included in the heritage protection fund of the Slovak Republic.

Habán Court in Sobotište was declared a heritage conservation zone in 1999 and comprises around 70 structures, including seven national cultural monuments. The Habán bell tower was built in 1753 above a vaulted cellar in the former Habán Court. The Habán mill also dates back a long way: the Habán community purchased it in 1545, and it was reconstructed between 2017 and 2020.

The Habán Museum in Sobotište is located in the Habán Court conservation zone, in the reconstructed Habán mill. Its exhibition presents the history of the origins of the Anabaptists. Another historical perspective is offered by the Samuel Jurkovič Cooperative Museum. It commemorates Samuel Jurkovič, the founder of the first Gazdovský spolok in Slovakia.

Trails and landscape

The themed circular trail “History of Sobotište” runs through the centre of Sobotište and connects the manor house, Habán monuments, religious buildings and the park behind the manor house. The stops therefore form a circular route that jointly incorporates architectural monuments and the park behind the manor house. Along its route, individual buildings, the interconnected Habán area and the park stand alongside one another as different components of a themed walk through the town; the route remains focused on the centre of Sobotište.

For excursions into nature around Sobotište, the tourist shelter below Uchánok serves as a starting point and place to rest. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 516.4 m. Another notable point is the viewpoint below Ovčinec, at about 460 m above sea level. From there, views extend across the surrounding landscape of the White Carpathians.

Cycling and stargazing

A cross-border cycling route also leads to Sobotište. The Vacenovice–Sobotište route starts in Vacenovice and runs via Rúdník, Studienka Nedbalka, Račie údolie, Skalica, Radošovce, Chropov and Chvojnica to Sobotište.

The Sobotište observatory provides a distinctive feature. It is used for observing the sky and communicating astronomical knowledge in the region.

Sobotište’s cultural features include historic buildings, museums and religious buildings. These include the Nyáryovský Manor House, Habán Court with its bell tower and mill, the Habán Museum, the Samuel Jurkovič Cooperative Museum, as well as the Protestant and Roman Catholic churches. The shelter, viewpoint and circular trail complement the historic sites with natural and trail elements. The Vacenovice–Sobotište cycling route and the Sobotište observatory expand the town’s features to include cross-border cycling, as well as stargazing and the communication of astronomical knowledge.
