Holiday apartment in Senitz: culture, history and Kunovská priehrada

History and trails stand side by side in Senitz. In Senica, the range extends from a publicly accessible mill with preserved technical equipment to a 5 km route along the Teplica stream. There are also exhibitions, churches and the Kunovská priehrada recreational area with its own water-based and sporting activities.

Culture and history

The Škodáčkov Mill near Pivák presents the history of milling, traditional technical crafts and the history of Čáčov. Visitors can view the preserved technical equipment there.

The Evangelical Church in Senica is a Neoclassical Toleration Church built in 1783 and 1784. Its tower was subsequently incorporated into the gabled façade of the church building in 1794. The Roman Catholic Parish Church of the Virgin Mary dates from 1631. It was originally Evangelical and became Catholic in 1654.

The Stará Senica Exhibition has been part of the museum’s permanent exhibitions since 2020. Using a 3D city model, it shows Senica’s historic centre around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The model includes historic buildings in Senica that no longer exist in the city today.

The Záhorská Gallery of Ján Mudroch in Senica is open to the public and is housed in a late Baroque château that was probably completed around 1760. Registered cultural monuments include the statue of Saint Florian, which is listed as an immovable national cultural monument in the Slovak Republic and dates from the second half of the 18th century, as well as Sokolovňa. The latter is a restored 19th-century summer house listed as a national cultural monument of the Slovak Republic.

The Archaeological Exhibition focuses on the discovery of part of a woolly mammoth tusk, found during the construction of Kunovská priehrada and considered possible evidence of hunting. It also documents the settlement of Senica throughout all periods of human history.

Trails, water and recreation

The Náučný chodník follows a 5 km route from Senica City Park towards Kunovská priehrada along the Teplica stream. The Senica–Kunovská priehrada Náučný chodník is lined with nine information panels and ends at an interactive environmental corner for children, which introduces them to nature and its inhabitants in a playful way.

Another connection between Senica and the recreational area starts at Senica’s central bus station: the Senica–Kunovská priehrada route reaches the recreational area after 5.5 km. There, Kunovská priehrada has a sandy beach with parasols. The area also includes a sports complex with a rental service; water attractions are rented out at the boathouse.
