Hradište Pod Vrátnom between Nature and Culture

Hradište pod Vrátnom lies in the valley of the Brezovský potok. The cadastral territory of Hradište pod Vrátnom includes the Malé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area, while two special natural monuments are located in the Myjavská pahorkatina.

Nature and Landscape

The Kyseľová Natural Monument protects a rocky forest steppe in the Myjavská pahorkatina with rare, endangered, and protected thermophilous plant species. The Mníchova úboč Natural Monument preserves rock formations of the georelief there, as well as a thermophilous rocky steppe with several endangered and protected plant species. The landscape thus combines rocky structures and characteristic thermophilous vegetation in two differently described protected areas.

Culture and History

The church stands in the northern part of the village on Háj Hill. It has a three-sided apse with a preserved Gothic-vaulted window. The Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity was built in 1845 on a hill northeast of the village, above the Vlčie jamy sandstone quarry. Services were held in this chapel while the church was being repaired after the 1906 earthquake.

A small fortified settlement dating from the 9th to 10th century was established on Tomišovec Hill above the village, below a steep slope along the Brezovský potok. This dating is based on the ceramic fragments found there. In the Dolný koniec district, a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk with a chronostich from 1759 stands in a small park at the intersection of the state road and the railway.

The parish cemetery around the church is considered well maintained and is enclosed. It contains stone crosses from the early 19th century, known as “dobrovodské” because of their design. A large stone cross at the entrance bears the year 1783 and the restoration inscription “Reno 1910”. The war memorial in Hradište pod Vrátnom depicts a statue of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and bears plaques commemorating local victims of the First and Second World Wars.

More recent cultural venues are also part of the village landscape. Stanica Haradicha uses a historic railway station building and serves as a cultural centre for the community of friends and supporters of OZ Haradicha. The Hradišťanka brass band is also known beyond Slovakia.

Hiking and Cycling

The green-marked Chodník Jána Hollého hiking trail, TZT 5107, runs from Hradište pod Vrátnom via Dobrá Voda to Pustá Ves and is 18.8 km long. Route 8124 runs from Prekážka to Hradište pod Vrátnom and is 13.5 km long.

For cycling, cycle route 5229 connects Hradište pod Vrátnom with Brezová pod Bradlom. Cycle route 5228 passes through Prietrž, Žuščíci, and Hradište pod Vrátnom, connecting settlements in the Myjavská pahorkatina.

Events and Music

In the municipality’s 2026 events calendar, the railway station is listed as the venue for “Hradišské vábenie” on 12 September 2026. “Hradišské vábenie” is a cultural event for local and visiting audiences, including children and adults.

The “Prehliadka dychových hudieb” event begins in the grounds of the cultural centre; its 30th edition is part of the previous event series. “Vrátnofest” is a folk and country festival in Hradište pod Vrátnom; its 12th edition took place on 6 June in the courtyard of the cultural centre. Záhorácky guľáš and Kopaničiarske trdelníky were announced as the food offered at the festival.
