Holiday apartment in Koplotovce – thermal spring, nature and history
Koplotovce lies on the river terraces on the left bank of the Váh, adjoining the southern slopes of the Považský Inovec. Thermophilous oak forests grow in the northern part of the village. Koplotovce has a sulfur- and gypsum-containing thermal spring.
Nature
Protected orchids, summer pheasant’s eye (Adonis aestivalis) and the priority habitat of European interest *6210/Tr1.1* occur in the cadastral area of Koplotovce. The breeding of European bee-eaters was documented near Koplotovce in a typical sandy eroded bank. After the bee-eaters had departed, 20 inhabited breeding tubes were counted in Koplotovce.
Water and cycle paths
The Štrkovisko Koplotovce fishing area near the municipality of Koplotovce comprises four gravel pits with a total water surface of 2.9 ha. For cycling, the Leopoldov–Červeník–Madunice–Koplotovce–Drahovce project includes a 0.720 km-long cycle-path section in the cadastral area of Koplotovce. The cycle-path project connects Madunice and Koplotovce with a bridge over the Váh between the two cadastral areas. The route figures distinguish between the short section in the cadastral area of Koplotovce and the connection over the Váh between Madunice and Koplotovce. In addition, a cycle path along the Váh with a total length of 5.7 km was extended towards Koplotovce in 2010.
Thermal water
The Sedavá fontána area includes a buffet offering refreshments. Sedavá fontána uses local thermal water with a temperature of 25 °C. The Sedavá fontána bathing facility in Koplotovce has been in operation since 1 June 2019.
Culture
The Baroque Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Koplotovce was built in 1734. It has a Rococo high altar from the late 18th century containing a painting of the Visitation of Mary by F. Werner. Services are held on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings in the filial Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Koplotovce.
Kaštieľ Kaplath, originally a Renaissance fortress, preserves fortifications on its southern side, a stone portal and two distinctive round bastions. The village’s earlier history is also tangible through specific finds: Koplotovce was first mentioned in 1113 in the Zobor Charter. In 1989, a Neolithic fragment of a stone core was recovered at the Za gedru archaeological site in Koplotovce. A Roman coin minted between 378 and 383 was also found during gardening work in 1999.
Eduard and Ambruš Kochanovskí are associated with the region’s cultural history and were friends with the poet Ján Hollý. In nearby Hlohovec, the local history museum displays a set of hunting furniture from the Koplotov estate. In its archaeological exhibition, the museum presents finds from Hlohovec and the surrounding area dating from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age, as well as from the Roman and Slavic settlement periods.
These traces range from preserved architectural forms and ecclesiastical art to individual finds from various periods. This picture is complemented by personal connections to literature and by the museum in nearby Hlohovec, which presents regional history across several chronological layers.
