Holiday apartment in Horné Mýto – nature reserve and educational trail

The Klátovské rameno National Nature Reserve extends into the cadastral territory of Horné Mýto. The protected area, covering 306.44 hectares, is a representative example of a meandering lowland river and preserves rare aquatic and wetland communities. This natural setting is complemented by a historically shaped village landscape and an educational trail established in the cadastral territories of Horné Mýto and Ohrady.

Nature

The Klátovské rameno National Nature Reserve is home to kingfishers, otters and beavers among its protected animal species. The conservation focus is not limited to wildlife: the reserve also encompasses rare aquatic and wetland communities that are characteristic of a meandering lowland river.

A single natural monument is located in the built-up center of Horné Mýto. Near the Calvary complex stands a 200-year-old protected pedunculate oak. Its location connects the established village area with a distinctive tree that is itself protected.

Things to do

An educational trail has been established in the cadastral territories of Horné Mýto and Ohrady. It features information boards about the protected fauna and flora of the Klátovské rameno site of European importance. The large information boards and a footbridge over the wetland are part of the educational trail and offer opportunities to sit, relax or have a refreshment during the walk.

The combination of information and route guidance brings two aspects of the area together: on the one hand, it explains the protected animal and plant life and its importance; on the other, the route leads across a footbridge through the wetland. The aforementioned boards and footbridge are components of the same educational trail in the cadastral territories of Horné Mýto and Ohrady.

Culture

The Baroque church in Horné Mýto was built in 1775. In the 19th century, it was rebuilt in the Classicist style. A commemorative plaque on the rear façade of the church commemorates the revolutionary years of 1848–1849. The church grounds also contain a Lourdes grotto dating from 1996.

Older traces have also been preserved in the village landscape outside the ecclesiastical surroundings. Several local farmhouses have retained their original architecture, including houses nos. 77, 108/13 and 122/18. The house numbers refer to specific buildings where the preserved rural architectural form can be seen in the village.

The local culture also includes the Csemadok women’s singing group. It regularly performs at major community events and is therefore present at important occasions in the municipality.

Geographical setting

Road III/1426 runs through the built-up area of Horné Mýto. It extends from Jahodná in the north to Trhová Hradská in the south. A bridge carrying a municipal road crosses the Klátovské rameno 1.4 km west of the center of Horné Mýto, in the direction of Ohrady.
