Holiday apartment in Krásno – Church, Chríb and Tribeč

At Chríb, Krásno features an archaeological site preserving the foundations of a pre-Romanesque church from the 11th century. This church is among the oldest architectural monuments in Slovakia to have survived at least in part. From the municipality of Krásno, the archaeological site can be reached via an unmarked footpath. From the viewpoint at the double cross on Chríb, views extend westwards across the central Nitra Valley and Topoľčany, and eastwards towards the Tribeč Mountains. A freely accessible telescope stands at the Chríb viewpoint. A shelter at the viewpoint protects hikers from the rain and provides seating. Numerous historical artefacts were found in the medieval cemetery near the church on Chríb, including coins, the oldest of which date from the 12th century, as well as a bronze corpus of Christ from the 12th century.

Culture

The Neoclassical Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which has survived to this day, was built in 1800–1801 after the adjacent smaller medieval church was demolished. Its interior is characterised by Prussian vaults and an altarpiece depicting the Cross of Christ, created in 1806 by the Austrian painter Jozef Zanussi. The new parish church in Krásno, the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, was consecrated in 1801 by the Bishop of Nitra, František Xaver Fusch.

Nature and trails

A hiking route through the Tribeč area reaches its lowest point in Krásno, at 185 metres above sea level. The cycling route “Bicyklom po severnej časti Tribeča” follows local roads through Krásno and climbs towards Chríb.

A valid fishing permit is required for fishing at the Krásno municipal pond. The “catch and release” principle applies when fishing at the Krásno municipal pond: caught fish may neither be taken away nor kept and must be released immediately.
