Partizánske – Holiday apartment between Baťa architecture and culture

Partizánske showcases an unusual combination of industrial history, historic buildings and a diverse range of public amenities. Baťa architecture is a defining feature: it was created by the Baťa company according to the philosophy of the “Ideal Industrial City”. Batist urban planning is still visible in factory buildings, a community centre, residential buildings and a church. SNP Square is also part of this historic urban landscape; it was laid out at the end of the 1930s according to the development plan for Baťovany.

Culture

An important place for engaging with this past is Baťa Point. The information centre is located in a Baťa workers’ house on Červená ulica in Partizánske. Visitors can view the rooms of a Baťa workers’ house there. Baťa Point also organises town tours, making the architectural traces of the city’s industrial development visible in several locations.

In the Šimonovany district lies the Vodný hrad water castle. In Slovakia, it is one of the oldest preserved Gothic-Renaissance noble residences in the castellum category. The water castle has an adjoining landscaped park. Vodný hrad was opened to the public in May 2016. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the oldest Roman Catholic church in the area of Partizánske, also stands in Šimonovany. It is also a national cultural monument.

The Partizánske Town Museum collects, preserves, scientifically processes and makes accessible objects documenting the history of Partizánske and the surrounding region. Its programme includes exhibitions, discussions, lectures and publications. Alongside the visible buildings, the town’s cultural offerings therefore also include historical objects and various forms of interpretation.

Leisure

The Partizánske Observatory is open to the public for observations of the night and daytime skies. Since 2012, it has also had a mobile digital planetarium. A lecture hall equipped with audiovisual technology is available for seminars and educational programmes for the general public. Another public amenity is the Panoramic 3D Cinema Partizánske, which screens Slovak premieres as well as international and domestic films in 3D.

The Dúha outdoor swimming pool complex includes a large swimming pool, a children’s paddling pool, a sitting and relaxation pool, and a pool with attractions. The facilities are complemented by a water slide, a children’s slide, a beach volleyball court, game tables and a barefoot trail. The Zimný štadión Partizánske complex is available for ice sports. Individuals and organised groups can use it by prior arrangement.

A cycling route has also been documented: the “Cyklotrasa mesta Partizánske – I. etapa” begins in the built-up area of Partizánske and follows the surfaced protective embankment of the Nitra to Malé Bielice. The range of public amenities thus extends from urban history and sky observation to water, ice, film and a surfaced cycling connection along the Nitra.
