Holiday apartment in Bošany: Castles, Church and Cycling Routes

In the centre of Bošany stands the old Renaissance castle of the Bossányiovci family. As a fortified complex, the castle had polygonal bastions and a surrounding moat. The Renaissance castle is currently undergoing extensive reconstruction for use as a conference centre. This means that the historic architectural form and a new contemporary use perspective now stand directly alongside each other at this location.

Culture

The Church of St Martin the Bishop in Bošany was completed in 1776 in the Late Baroque style. It is a single-nave building with an incorporated tower. However, its history goes further back: the original Church of St Martin the Bishop in Bošany is first mentioned in 1332. The church also contains an altarpiece of St Martin dating from 1776.

The sacred heritage of Bošany also includes the upper chapel. It was built in 1725 at the suggestion of Mikuláš Bošáni. Services are held there during Marian celebrations. The Red Chapel contains an image of the Virgin Mary, a statue of Our Lady of Sorrows and a cross. In the past, it served on procession days and on days of supplication for the harvest.

Further individual examples of religious art can be found throughout the village. The statue of St John of Nepomuk still stands in front of the municipal office in Bošany and was restored in 2001. A Baroque statue of St Florian stands in front of the Bossányiovci family castle in the centre of Bošany.

History

Another historical facet is represented by the Baroque-Classical castle. It was built in 1776 by Ignác Bošáni and his wife Terézia. Authentically preserved façades and a well-preserved interior characterise the historic building. The preserved Baroque-Classical castle is privately owned and serves cultural and social purposes. A new park with a pond was created next to it on the grounds of the former park.

Present

Bošany thus displays several layers of history side by side: the original Church of St Martin is documented as early as 1332, the upper chapel was built in 1725, the church and the Baroque-Classical castle bear the year 1776, and the statue of St John of Nepomuk was restored in 2001. At the same time, the Renaissance castle is currently being reconstructed for use as a conference centre, while the preserved Baroque-Classical castle is privately owned and serves cultural and social purposes.

Experiences

Bošany is also connected with the surrounding villages by two cycling routes. The Partizánske–Bošany–Chynorany–Žabokreky nad Nitrou cycling route is suitable for various types of bicycles. Another cycling route leads from Partizánske via Brodzany, Krásno, Nedanovce, Bošany, Chynorany and Žabokreky nad Nitrou back to Partizánske. Events regularly held in Bošany include the Bošiansky jarmok fair.
