Nature and trails

Since 1966, Spišské Bystré has been home to the 69-hectare Hranovnická dubina nature reserve. It contains the northernmost native stand of sessile oak. The name and extent of the protected area give this natural landscape a clearly defined place within the municipality. In addition, a blue-marked hiking trail begins in the centre of Spišské Bystré. It leads southwards out of the municipality. The trail therefore starts directly in the centre and then continues southwards beyond the municipality.

Culture and local history

Spišské Bystré is home to the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Michael. It was originally Gothic and dates from 1306. It was remodelled in 1706 before being extended in the Neo-Gothic style in 1926. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stands next to the church in the centre of the municipality. It too was built in the 19th century.

Other religious buildings are located along various streets in the municipality. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary was built in the 19th century. It initially stood behind the village and is now located on SNP Street. The Chapel of Saint Barbara, also built in the 19th century, stands on the road to Hranovnica. The Chapel of the Holy Cross is located on the road towards Kravany.

The built heritage also includes the monument at Foľuš. It is a wooden building with a water wheel that was used for fulling cloth. Spišské Bystré thus preserves both religious buildings from different periods and a building with a craft-related function.

The water wheel refers to a specific craft use of the wooden building: it was not used as a mill in general, but for fulling cloth. This function in particular distinguishes the monument from the religious buildings and adds a craft-related perspective on the use of the building to the local history.

Winter sports at Kubašok Ski Centre

Kubašok Ski Centre has a ski and snowboard school. Lessons for complete beginners begin at the children's lift. After a few hours, beginners move on to a larger lift. The progression from the children's lift to the larger lift is therefore explicitly part of the lessons for people with no prior experience.

Transport connections

Spišské Bystré has no direct rail connection. The nearest railway station is in Poprad. Regular regional bus services operated by SAD Poprad connect Spišské Bystré from Poprad bus station and from the Dom kultúry and Nové mesto stops. Both the railway station in Poprad and several of the specified bus departure points in Poprad are therefore relevant for getting there.
