Holiday apartment in Svit: cycling routes, geopark and winter experiences
Svit combines varied trails, geological insights, urban history and winter sports within a compact thematic area.
With a holiday apartment in Svit, travellers can combine different holiday themes: cycling, routes through nature and the city, geology, architectural history, winter sports and swimming stand alongside one another as distinct focal points. The choice of accommodation type remains open and can be based on the personal importance attached to these themes.
Cycling
The Svit–Poprad cycling and inline skating path runs along the Poprad River and its tributary, the Mlynica. The route is suitable for beginners and more advanced skaters and cyclists. Another connection is called “Cyklochodníkom do Lopušnej doliny”: it leads from Poprad through Svit into Lopušná Valley. Along the way, this cycling route offers views of the High Tatras and the peaks of the Kozie Chrbty.
The HORAL MTB Maratón is also a permanent fixture in Svit’s cycling calendar. It has been held in Svit without interruption since 2000 and includes an 18-kilometre family route with 180 metres of elevation gain.
Nature
The Kimbiark educational trail is 13 kilometres long. It begins at the primary school on Komenského Street in Svit, leads through Svit’s historic district to Podskalka, over Bôrik Mountain to Mengusovce and then back.
The Baba nature reserve is located near Svit. It covers 205 hectares and protects rare plant and animal communities on dolomitic ground. The area also has a 4-kilometre educational trail and is located in the immediate vicinity of the town of Svit.
Culture and knowledge
Svit Geopark contains a fossilised fragment of a tree estimated to be 22 million years old. It also displays 43 rocks from the surrounding area and further afield. At the geopark, pupils can compare a geological map with rocks from across Slovakia and touch rock samples.
The town’s history includes the so-called Baťova červená kolónia. Its construction began in connection with the construction of the Baťa factory, to accommodate workers and factory employees. Another distinctive building is the Church of St Joseph the Worker. It was consecrated on 6 July 1991 and has a large interior with an octagonal floor plan. The church and the associated parish building are located on the right bank of the Poprad River.
Winter
The Svit–Lopušná dolina ski area has 1.8 kilometres of ski slopes, all of which are covered with artificial snow. Evening skiing is available on 930 metres of illuminated slopes. For cross-country skiing, the ski area has 3 kilometres of groomed cross-country trails.
